Galvanized steel, heat, 200x390cm, 2022

The shape of the three central panels of the Isenheim Altarpiece, produced by Matthias Grünewald is reproduced. The original crucifixion depicted was historically shown to patients for healing purposes. Rather than emphasizing its religious or figurative aspects, I chose to work on this surface, which has been protected through galvanization—a process where a layer of zinc is applied to enhance resistance. Although steel is typically seen as a strong material, I subjected parts of it to heat treatment, making it vulnerable to external conditions and prone to rust.
